Swedam, also known as fomentation, is a core Ayurvedic therapeutic procedure designed to relieve stiffness, heaviness, and coldness in the body. It is often considered a Poorva Karma (preparatory step) for Panchakarma, the traditional detoxification process in Ayurveda.
This therapy applies heat to the body using various methods—such as steam, warm liquids, dry heat, medicated pastes, or heated herbal bundles—customized according to the individual’s dosha and health condition.
One of the most effective forms we offer is Pinda Swedam (also called Kizhi or Potli Swedam), which falls under Tapa Sweda (direct heat application). It is one of the 13 types of fomentation therapies described by Acharya Charaka, collectively known as Sankara Swedam.
Key Components of Patra Pinda Swedam:
The medicated bundle (Pinda or Potli) is carefully prepared by our Ayurvedic practitioners based on the patient’s specific condition.
Ruksha (dry): Applied without oil, typically for Kapha-dominant conditions.
Snigdha (unctuous): Applied after Abhyanga (oil massage), recommended for Vata-related disorders.
Pinda Swedam offers deep relaxation, improved circulation, and targeted healing, making it an ideal therapy for restoring balance and vitality to the body.
